The Liverpool Business and Property Court Forum (LBPCF) hosted an interesting and informative session on fixed costs in practice at Exchange Chambers in Liverpool last evening. Amie Boothman (pictured) delivered the first half of an interesting talk on fixed costs under the new reforms to the civil procedure rules. Amie focused on extended fixed recoverable costs (FRC) and a number of issues arising from the reforms, including their scope, exceptions, and the complexity of the FRC bands and various challenges raised by the new rules.
Scott Cowley (pictured) followed this part of the talk with a close examination of a number of issues including offer and acceptance, unreasonable behaviour and vulnerable parties. There were some interesting anonymous worked scenarios used in the session, including from cases that the speakers had been involved in.
HHJ Cadwallader chaired the event, which was attended by local practitioners, pupils, and academics.
Our next event takes place on the 21st of April with a talk by Mr Justice Leech. Lord Justice Birss will also talk at the session which will be chaired by HHJ Cadwallader. More details here.
